hey mates, what is all about life? What is the meaning of life? What is the purpose of living in this world? Why I suffer? Why..............
Those are questions out of millions of problem that I face in my daily life. Besides, reading books from Shifu (Master Sheng Yen) and other great teachers, I do meditation (very lazily, ) and try to be positive. Somehow, I need something more. So, I was very lucky to be given an opportunity to participate in one of the Awakening Camps in Dharma Drum Mountain, Taiwan. Wowwwwww. it was a great experience for me........
want to know more.....to be continued, coz have to work now......hehehehe |

hey Friends,
I attended 2007 February DDM Awakening Camp. I was given an opportunity of lifetime to experience life of a monastic life of Chinese Buddhism tradition (generally the Mahayana tradition).
In general, my head was shaved (almost bald). We were given two sets of "Chong Kua" (sort of daily dress or under-garment) and one set of "Fu Tian Ee" (sort of official dress to be worn during serios ceremonies). And we have to bring our own "Hai Ching" (a type of dress that goes with the "Fu Tian Ee"). Those are sort of our daily attire. At the beginning, we found it odd to wear them, but after a while, they were good to me. It is because I do not worry about what to wear and it is all we had. We were introduced to the life as a monatsic in general, the life in Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) in specific. We were given many lecturers on Buddhism and some courses on the aims of DDM. Many activities were planned for us to experience life of a monastic and methods to know ourself (which I always thought I know myself, but I am wrong). We stayed there 9 days with joy and heaps of delicious vegetarian food (yummie......). My personal feeling about this camp is that I discovered that being a monastic is not simple. They need to be compassionate to all sentient beings, strict to themselves and be happy at the same time (Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!)....... Last but not least, try yourself and you will know what it is......
With Metta,
Ricky |
